Kite fascination

Always I was fascinated by kites, but the first childish steps were formerly frustrating. To run over the field, to hold the kite in motion and to let it rise. In those days, the kites were made of deal and pergament paper.

Sometimes you was lucky and the kite flew. The pleasure was infinite. One day I saw a child with his father, who had built a box kite, that was very considerable at that time. This kite flew fantastic.

This experience stayed in my memory for many years. A long time my sons and I were accompanied by a bought Eddy and a small steering kite (for 70,00 DM).

Education, work, family and many other hobbies forced their way. The fascination Asia revived my thoughts of kites. Four decades went by till I found a book by Wolfgang Schimmelpfennig. The enthusiasm was great, the material new territory to me. It followed a phase of an intensive study. The visit of a kite celebration on the Liebschützberg started off.

I went into the construction of kites.

It was heavy to get the right material, because it didn't  correspond to my colour concept, but I wanted to start with the construction. So I bought a sewing machine in a second-hand shop for 40,- DM.

It had to be a Sode Dako. The first try was successful - the kite flew fantastic.

The second project was a Snowflake. Today I have another colour concept, but it was a thinkable kite. Little by little it developed further objects. There is much to build, I am familiar with technical things, but on the financial side the money sets limits. So the future objects stick by a frame which is easy to grasp.

Although I set my heart on the "Einleiner", I am open-minded to the field of the "Zweileiner" and the "Mehrleiner". I like good presented pair.

I had great trouble with the trick flight. The discordant routines put me off.

By the kite friendship, which had result from a NG-contact, I got to know with Uwe Low from Altenburg. He is so enthusiastic about trick flight and has complete command of it in a masterly way. That's  why I corrected my first impression. I am inspired by his ability and I try the varied possibilities on the lowest level.

Always hoping to inspire the people about this hobby and to pass it on by my homepage

Yours Andreas Napravnik
